A numerical study on the influence of hole defects on impact behavior of Twaron^®fabric subjected to low-velocity impacts

In the present study, a finite element impact model was created and analyzed by commercial FEM code ANSYS ® -AUTODYN then validated drop weight experiment. Moreover, models of single- multilayer panels plain weave as well different weaving architectures were designed with without holes to compare properties. The influence size location hole defect on behavior single-layer Twaron fabric investigated, degree defects sizes level investigated in. addition, effect multi-layer armor panel studied. Hole less influential in terms contact force had severe constraining front layer when number increased. Furthermore, (i.e. plain, twill, basket, satin weave) analyzed. Plain highest energy absorption capability scenarios among all woven architectures. most affected twill least transverse wave velocity; absorption. These findings will provide guidance for engineering soft body amour composite materials.
